Through a leadership committee or a university task force, oversee a needs assessment for forming a Community of Practice in a particular area of leadership. and learn the steps to create one that is either based on in-person interactions or one of U-M's Workplace platforms.
Think of at least two other perspectives when addressing an issue the next time you participate in your U-M related committee or when Community of Practice meets.
Think of a time in another job when you were resistant to change. Think of as many reasons as possible why you were resistant. Did those reasons come to fruition? If not, what did you learn?
Think of a leader you admire. Reflect upon how that leader demonstrates value for his or her diverse stakeholders and how you can adjust your behaviors or actions to better demonstrate your values.
The next time you offer constructive feedback, be respectful, positive before adding a suggestion, specific and timely.
The next time you attend an event or conference, either ask someone you know to introduce you to another participant or approach that person by yourself.
The next time you receive outstanding service, write down how that sounded and looked, and choose one or two of those practices to incorporate in your job. Inform a colleague who can hold you accountable.
