General:
- Use of the Wellness Center is at your own risk.
- Consult your physician before beginning any exercise program.
- The UH South Wellness Center is accessible 24 hours, 7 days a week, including holidays.
- Although access is available 24/7, staff and security are not present 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- Memberships to the UH South Wellness Center are for active Michigan Medicine faculty and staff only.
- Only active Wellness Center members are authorized to use the locker rooms, showers, equipment and group exercise rooms.
- Please do not allow access of unauthorized individuals for everyone’s safety. Members who allow access to unauthorized groups or individuals will have their membership revoked for 1 year.
- You must be at least 18 years old to use the facility. No children are allowed in the Wellness Center.
- Medical emergencies: Dial 999 from any house phone (The Wellness Center room number is F8530). In addition, please report all emergencies and injures by emailing [email protected]
- For the overall enjoyment of others, cell phones may not be used for telephone calls, zoom or face-time calls or for making a video while on the workout floor or during classes. Cell phone use of any kind is not permitted while on a piece of equipment or in the locker rooms. Taking pictures or videos of other members without their direct consent is strictly prohibited and may result in loss of membership privileges.
- For urgent calls, please use the computer room (F8674) or the corridors to make and receive calls.
- Food is prohibited. Beverages must be in a non-spill drinking container.
- If listening to music or watching videos, headphones must be worn at all times.
- The Wellness Center door should always remain locked. Do not prop the door open.
Attire:
- Proper attire is required.
- Shirts and shoes are required and should be worn at all times.
- Athletic shoes are required to use the equipment. Street shoes (boots, dirty shoes, open-toe shoes, etc.) are not permitted when using exercise equipment.
- Please make sure your athletic shoes are clean and dry.
- The Wellness Center is a perfume- and fragrance-free facility (per UMHHC Policy 04-06-008).
Equipment Use:
- There is a 30-minute time limit on aerobic/cardiovascular machines.
- Wipe down equipment (handles, seat, benches, etc.) after each use (gym wipes provided).
- If you sweat profusely on the cardio equipment (TV screen, handles and/or deck, etc…) please be courteous of other members and grab a white shower towel from the locker room and wipe down the machine.
- Be considerate of others waiting to use the machines.
- Proper gym etiquette is to allow others to work in for a set while you rest.
- Avoid sitting on equipment you are not using, especially during peak gym hours.
- Return all equipment, plates, and dumbbells to their racks after each use.
- Keep the rooms clean and orderly.
- Always remain in control of weights - do not drop dumbbells or slam weights. There are office spaces below the Wellness Center where people are working. Use the Bumper Pads if you do not have a spotter.
- Strength Machines - control the weight stack and do not slam the weight stack down after your set.
- All equipment must stay in the Wellness Center and be returned to the proper location.
- Inspect equipment for damage before use. If damaged, DO NOT USE and immediately call x59790 and leave a message about the piece of equipment (including the type of equipment and its inventory number).
Lockers:
- For privacy and courtesy reasons, please refrain from making Zoom/Facetime calls or making videos while using the Wellness Center locker room.
- Lockers with programmable locks are available.
- Lockers are available for use only while using the Wellness Center. Remove your belongings when you leave the wellness center.
- Lockers automatically unlock after 3 hours. Please do not leave your items in the locker if you are not using the wellness center. Personal locks left on the locker for more than 24 hours will be removed by security.
- MHealthy and U-M are not responsible for lost or stolen valuables, keys, or any other personal items; be sure to secure your belongings.
- If you are locked out of your locker, please see the Wellness Center employee on duty. If a Wellness Center employee is not available, please call maintenance: dial 65054 from a house phone to reach an operator. IMPORTANT: If your call does not connect with an operator, follow these steps: 1) please leave a voicemail and 2) call back in 5 minutes. (See signs posted in the locker rooms)
Showers:
- No personal property may be kept in the shower room at any time.
- Please leave shower room clean and orderly.
- Towel service will be provided. Do not leave towels on the floor after your shower, please place soiled towels in the proper bin when finished.
- Please be considerate of others waiting to use the showers.
Personal Items:
- Do not leave personal items unattended. Bags, coats, and other personal belongings are to be kept in the locker room. U-M accepts no responsibility for lost or stolen articles.
- Personal exercise equipment is not allowed in the Wellness Center.
- Items left behind in the Wellness Center should be turned into the Mich Med lost and found office: Room 1A201. To follow up on lost items, please email: [email protected] or call 734-647-8448
- Gym apparel left behind will be turned in to lost and found.
Memberships – Payments and Cancellations:
- Memberships cannot be transferred between or to family members or friends.
- The membership fee is $10 per month. To activate your monthly auto renewal membership access to the Wellness Center, all users must complete the following steps:
- Add the correct membership to your cart and log in to your account.
- Complete the Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q)/Informed Consent and waiver.
- Checkout and consent to payroll deduction as your payment method.
- The monthly membership fee ($10/month) is paid through payroll deduction. It will show up as UM Wellness Center on your paycheck. Members may cancel their Membership at any time. Please note that once the membership is charged at the beginning of the month, the member will remain active through the end of the month. There are no refunds or partial refunds given. The member must cancel at least one business day prior to the end of the month to avoid charges for the subsequent month.
- If you leave the University of Michigan or become ineligible for a UH South Wellness Center membership, it is your responsibility to cancel your membership to stop payments.
- To cancel a membership: email [email protected] asking that your membership be canceled.
- Phone calls or verbal communication are not considered a formal request for cancellation.
- If you want to re-join later, you must email the wellness center and have the manager add your name back to the waitlist. You will receive an invite when a membership is available.
