Over 28 million Americans still smoke. E-cigarette/vaping among teens has skyrocketed with more than 2 million U.S. middle and high school students reported currently using e-cigarettes in 2021. Tobacco use remains the single largest preventable cause of disease and premature death in the country.
Each year, the American Cancer Society and many other health organizations, observe the third Thursday of November as the Great American Smokeout. On this day, millions of people choose to start their journey toward a smoke-free life or make a plan to quit.
This year, the Great American Smokeout is Thursday, November 21, 2024. In support, the university offers a number of programs and resources to raise awareness and support those who want to quit tobacco.
