Jeff Evans
Assistant Vice President and Secretary at the University of Michigan
Jeff Evans serves as Assistant Vice President and Secretary at the University of Michigan, reporting to the Vice President and Secretary. As chief of staff, he plays a central role in coordinating strategy, planning, and operations for the office. He supports effective engagement with the Board of Regents, the President, executive officers, and other university leaders, while providing counsel on key institutional priorities and initiatives.
Jeff brings extensive leadership experience from both higher education and private industry. Prior to his current appointment, he was Director of Total Rewards at Sun Country Airlines and Executive Budget Officer at Midi Enterprises—a Native American company specializing in federal government contracting.
At the University of Michigan-Dearborn, Jeff held a variety of senior roles over seventeen years, including Vice Chancellor for Business Affairs, where he managed facilities operations, financial services, human resources, and public safety. He also served as Director of Human Resources and taught undergraduate and graduate courses in human resources management.
Earlier in his career, Jeff was Director of Human Resources for Northwest Airlines at the Detroit WorldGateway and participated in Hilton Hotels’ professional development program, with assignments in Chicago and Minneapolis. He began his professional journey with summer roles at General Motors.
Jeff holds a Bachelor of Science in Employment Relations from Michigan State University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Michigan.

Jeffrey T. Kullgren, M.D., M.S., M.P.H.
Kutsche Memorial Research Chair and Associate Professor of Internal Medicine Vice Chief for Research and Innovation, Division of General Medicine
Dr. Jeff Kullgren is the Kutsche Memorial Research Chair and Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan, where he is also Vice Chief for Research and Innovation for the Division of General Medicine and Director of the National Poll on Healthy Aging. Dr. Kullgren practices outpatient and inpatient general internal medicine at the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System and is a Research Scientist in the Ann Arbor VA Center for Clinical Management Research. His research aims to help patients and clinicians make sound decisions that will improve the value of health care delivery.

Joe Zichi, M.A.
Health & Wellness Collective Impact Lead
Joe Zichi serves as the Health & Wellness Collective Impact Lead. In this role, Joe is responsible for providing backbone support to the University of Michigan Well-being Collective. The Well-being Collective is guided by the Okanagan Charter with the vision of becoming a health promoting campus. Wellness is not a one-size-fits-all practice. Wellness is informed by our multiple identities, the society in which we live, and interconnectedness to community, family, friends, and self. Joe supports student wellness by meeting everyone where they are at in a non-judgmental, multipartial way. Joe strives to support student vitality by harnessing internal motivations and sharing resources through positive inquiry.
Before joining the Well-being Collective, Joe served as the associate director for the Office of Student Conflict Resolution at the University of Michigan. Joe holds a M.A. in Student Affairs Administration and a B.A. in Political Theory & Constitutional Democracy, both from Michigan State University. Joe is a restorative justice practitioner and has led consultations, workshops, and professional development offerings in conflict resolution across the United States.

JoLynn Montgomery
Senior Manager of Applied Public Health
JoLynn Montgomery, PhD, MPH is the Senior Manager of Applied Public Health, part of the University of Michigan Health and Wellness portfolio. Her interests include applied epidemiology with specialization in control of communicable diseases, disease surveillance systems, data security, public health emergency preparedness and response, outbreaks, and quarantine & isolation.

Joy Pehlke, MEd
Director of Health Promotion & Wolverine Wellness
Joy Pehlke, MEd, is the Director of Health Promotion & Wolverine Wellness at the University of Michigan. She co-chairs the Steering Committee of the Well-being Collective, dedicated to integrating well-being into policies and systems change on campus. She also serves on the leadership team for the 4-year JED Campus partnership along with the Chief Mental Health Officer and CAPS leadership.
Joy's professional interests and expertise include: College Health Promotion, Creating an inclusive culture of well-being from the systemic to the individual level, Consulting with faculty and staff in support of student well-being, Graduate student well-being and mental health, Health equity and social justice, Wellness coaching, Motivational Interviewing, and Social prescribing. Joy initiated the development of the University of Michigan Wellness Coaching program in 2014, led the program until 2019, and helped to co-write the ACHA White Paper on Wellness Coaching in 2020. She has served as an adjunct lecturer in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, and built the curriculum and taught the course ALA 240: Living Well in College and Beyond at U-M since 2017.
Joy presents nationally at ACHA, NASPA Strategies, ACPA, the Mental Health on College Campuses Conference, in addition to numerous local conferences and retreats. She provides consultations and presentations across campus and nationally on Health Promotion, Health-promoting campuses, the U-M Model of Well-being, top college student public health issues, and mental health & well-being learning outcomes and data. She recently co-authored a feature article about U-M’s Well-being Collective in the July-August 2025 special issue of About Campus.

Karen Schmidt, MPH
Senior Director, MHealthy, Health and Well-being Services
Karen Schmidt is the Senior Director for the university’s Health and Well-being Services, which includes MHealthy, Mental Health Counseling and Consultation Services, and Child and Family Care. Health and Well-being Services supports the health and well-being of faculty, staff, and community members through evidence-based health and well-being strategies that result in positive health improvement and organizational outcomes. Karen has over 25 years of experience leading, implementing, and evaluating health and well-being programs. Before joining MHealthy in 2008, she worked for the university's health plan, M-CARE, overseeing wellness programming for its members. Karen has a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Michigan.

Kathryn Whiteside, RD
Michigan Dining, Division of Student Life
A Registered Dietitian for more than 30 years, Kathy oversees food service operating systems and support services including nutrition, information technology, meal plan administration and standards. Kathy manages a team of Registered Dietitians, technology managers, the food & occupational safety manager, graduate nutrition students and interns, and administers the MHealthy Program for Michigan Dining.
Additionally, Kathy has extensive experience as a production manager, including menu planning, inventory and purchasing. In partnership with Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE) and the USDA her team developed and published guidelines for managing food allergies in higher education. In previous roles as a rehabilitation and clinical dietitian, Kathy designed special menus, provided nutrition consultations, and developed training and outreach classes in nutrition and clinical diets.

Kelcey Stratton, Ph.D.
Chief Behavioral Health Strategist and a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry
Kelcey Stratton is the Chief Behavioral Health Strategist and a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at University of Michigan. She leads the development of innovative and strategic initiatives to support the well-being of staff and faculty. She is a licensed clinical psychologist and has particular interests in the areas of stress and resilience, trauma-informed care, mindfulness, and the use of narrative and reflective practices. Prior to coming to University of Michigan, Dr. Stratton lived and worked in South Africa for several years, where she served as a mental health clinician and consultant to Peace Corps volunteers and medical providers in 65 countries. She has also worked as a clinician and researcher with a focus on post-traumatic stress among military veterans. Dr. Stratton received B.A. degrees in Psychology and in French Language and Literature from University of Oregon, and her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from The New School for Social Research.

Michael N. Herrington, M.Ed., SPHR, has dedicated his career to facilitating the growth and success of others. As a member of the International Ombuds Association (IOA), he embraces the mission of confidentially assisting staff in resolving issues and helping to create a positive workplace. Michael earned a M.Ed. in Counselor Education from Pennsylvania State University, a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Windsor, and is SPHR certified. Michael has previously worked as a Counselor, Student Affairs administrator, Senior Human Resources professional, and strategy consultant.

Sr. Specialist for Michigan Medicine in the PEAR (Prevention Education, Assistance, Resources) unit in the Equity, Civil Rights, and Title IX (ECRT) office at the University of Michigan
Pedro Coracides, LLMSW (he/him) is the Sr. Specialist for Michigan Medicine in the PEAR (Prevention Education, Assistance, Resources) unit in the Equity, Civil Rights, and Title IX (ECRT) office at the University of Michigan. In this role, Pedro provides support to faculty. Staff, and trainees around sexual and gender-based misconduct in various healthcare schools and colleges, including Michigan Medicine. Pedro’s professional experience spans across aviation, tech, healthcare, non-profit, and higher education, ranging from operations, training, and product development. Pedro's passion for well-being is informed by his social work background, training in restorative practices, and his coaching certification, earning his Bachelor of Science from Saint Louis University, his Master of Social Work from Wayne State University, and is a limited license social worker in the state of Michigan and is perusing his ICF ACC coaching certification. He started his career at the University of Michigan in 2017 and has served on a variety of committees and groups including Voices of the Staff, the Presidential Taskforce for the Restorative Justice Center, and the Coordinated Community Response Team. He resides in the City of Detroit with his husband Tyler and serves as a board member on the Rosedale Park Improvement Association.

Quinci Alexander
Intermediate Customer Service Representative, Logistics, Parking, and Transportation
Quinci Alexander started at U-M in kitchen prep at South Quad in 2008. Here is where he discovered his love for cooking. After leaving the university for a time, he returned as a parking attendant in 2012. In 2018, Quinci was promoted to Intermediate Customer Service Representative, managing the flow of traffic as well as other duties within his department. He also helps with special project launches related to parking changes.
He is a member of the Voices of the Staff and the Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee. He also serves as an MHealthy Champion for his department. Quinci graduated from ITT Technical Institute in 2008 with an Associate’s Degree in Applied Sciences of Computer Aided Drafting. He is also certified in Mental Health First Aid.

Quinta Vreede
Chief Administrative Officer, University of Michigan Health System
Quinta became the first Chief Administrative Officer of the University of Michigan Health System in May 2010. She oversees key Health System functions including regulatory compliance, government relations, facility planning, public relations and marketing. In addition to her CAO role, Quinta also serves as Chief of Staff to the Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs. Quinta has more than 20 years of experience working in health care, many of them at UMHS. Prior to becoming the CAO, she was the lead administrator for the Department of Family Medicine in the U-M Medical School, while also serving as an ambulatory care administrator responsible for five of the Health System's outpatient centers. She was the first health care administrator to hold both roles simultaneously. Quinta has an M.H.S.A. from the U-M School of Public Health.
