Internships and Temporary Employment


Depending on the semester, MHealthy may have internship opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students in the areas of employee wellness, community health promotion, fitness center management, personal training, health education, nutrition, tobacco cessation, and marketing.

Prospective interns should consider the following:

  • Internship positions and specific projects or tasks vary based on seasonal MHealthy program needs and the individual interests and goals of selected interns.
  • In order to be considered for an MHealthy internship, potential interns must have completed at least their junior year of college and be majoring in a health-related field.

Project Healthly Schools Internship

Job Duties: 

To assist in the development, implementation, and promotion of health education activities for Project Healthy Schools (PHS), a grant-funded intervention program for middle school students. PHS works to reduce childhood obesity rates and long-term cardiovascular risk factors.

The PHS Fall Intern will contribute to multiple projects, which may include needs assessments, program evaluation, instructional videos for teachers, health promotion materials, and assembling lesson materials. There may also be some on-site health education with adolescents at PHS middle schools. Projects will be tailored to the skills and interests of the successful candidate. Internship (MUST be for class credit), 10 – 15 hours available a week.

Fitness/Employee Wellness Internship

Job Duties:

To assist in the development, implementation, analysis and promotion of health education programs and activities for UM faculty and staff.  Programs would be both population-based and focused partnership level programs, and culture change would be a vital part of the learning and informational process.  Event planning may also be a part of the internship.  The proper candidate will be at least a junior in a health related field. Internship of 20–30 hours a week. 

Alcohol Mangement Intern

This internship will provide the intern the opportunity to participate in Alcohol Awareness Month, National Alcohol Screening Day and related educational activities to help increase the Ann Arbor community’s awareness around assistance and resources for reducing alcohol related harm. Grad students preferred. This position is 8 hours a week from January – April, 2018.

Temporary Employment

MHealthy occasionally has temporary employment opportunities for Exercise Class Instructors, Fitness Specialists and Personal Trainers.

Exercise Class Instructors

If you are interested in instructing one of our classes you must currently be certified in CPR and currently certified in the area you wish to teach (Yoga, Pilates, etc.). Contact Brett Auger at or (734) 764-0333 for information on open positions.
