Remote Work Policies and Agreements

Updated September 16, 2024

Employees who have received approval from their supervisor, unit HR, and central administration as appropriate to work offsite must have the remote work agreement on file with their department.

This agreement helps to ensure a safe work environment, alignment with university policies and procedures, agreed-upon standard work hours, communication methods, and work expectations.

Departments are expected to review agreements annually at a minimum and renew or update as appropriate. Units will confirm their compliance status each year through the annual unit internal control certification process

Remote Work Agreement

  • Remote work arrangement information and the remote work agreement will be submitted, at a minimum on an annual basis, by Ann Arbor Campus regular and temporary staff by following this path in Wolverine Access → Employee Self Service (ESS) → Remote Worker. Units will inform employees when to use the system to enter remote work arrangement information

  • Remote Work Agreement: Use this agreement when an employee has a hybrid or mobile/remote work arrangement and work arrangement information is not submitted by the employee by following this path in Wolverine Access → Employee Self Service (ESS) → Remote Worker.

The agreement has been created by Human Resources and the Office of the General Counsel (OGC) for use with regular and temporary employees.

Michigan Medicine employees should continue to follow their Michigan Medicine remote work guidance.

Dearborn and Flint employees should contact their respective Human Resources offices for guidance.

Faculty, Research Fellows, and Graduate Student Assistants should continue to follow the guidance set forth by their school or college regarding remote work. Please contact Academic HR for guidance on remote work for these employee groups.

Process for Reviewing Remote Work Requests

The Interim Policy on Domestic and International Remote Work Standard Practice Guide 201.05-01 outlines current work practices.
