Volunteer with Michigan Medicine's HOPE Ambassador Program or another of its volunteer programs.

Volunteer with a senior center, hospital or animal shelter.

Volunteer to perform a process that you must learn in order to deliver the service or product of a group you are volunteering with outside of your job.

Volunteer to onboard a new hire or intern.

Volunteer to join the leadership of an organization trying to improve poor customer service, employee moral or undergoing a major change initiative.

Volunteer in a leadership capacity for a non-profit organization.

Through a leadership committee or a university task force, oversee a needs assessment for forming a Community of Practice in a particular area of leadership. and learn the steps to create one that is either based on in-person interactions or one of U-M's Workplace platforms.

Think of a leader you admire. Reflect upon how that leader demonstrates value for his or her diverse stakeholders and how you can adjust your behaviors or actions to better demonstrate your values.

The next time you receive outstanding service, write down how that sounded and looked, and choose one or two of those practices to incorporate in your job. Inform a colleague who can hold you accountable.

Teach a new hire or intern a unique process that they must understand and follow for their job.
