Generate two personal goals that you can attain within the next year and create an action plan to reach them. Ask someone to hold you accountable.
Find something positive and noteworthy in everyone's performance and share it with them.
Find and assign specialized leadership assignments for reports (e.g., managing a large project, making a presentation on behalf of the university, sitting on a high-level hire).
Facilitate an onboarding strategic plan with organization where you volunteer that has high turnover.
Facilitate a professional development program for an organization that you volunteer with.
Encourage faculty or staff to present new knowledge that they learned in a class, via a stretch assignment, or in a coaching session with their team of colleagues.
Encourage colleagues whom you work with on U-M committees to take on a challenging assignment within that role. Provide supportive feedback and coaching if you have expertise in that area.
Encourage collaboration. Clearly define objectives and goals to your team and facilitate brainstorming and discussion to meet those goals. Offer support.
