Write a personal vision statement, what you see yourself doing professionally.

With your direct supervisor, create three goals and action plans to achieve them. Include stretch assignments.

With someone you mentor or coach, review several case studies and identify the cause, the effects and ways that relationships can be repaired.

With a person you are coaching, target in on a particular skill or aptitude they would like to hone (e.g., public speaking). Break it into smaller components. Demonstrate and then invite them to try. Offer positive and constructive feedback including a set of drills or strategies.

When requesting feedback, first ask participants to offer three positive attributes for one negative or constructive comment.

Volunteer with the U-M People Grove coaching program.

Volunteer with an organization as a mentor or coach for children and young adults.

Volunteer with a professional or other non-profit that you are involved with.

Volunteer to work at a workshop or conference that your department or unit sponsors.
