Unemployment Insurance Claims in Other States

The University of Michigan is currently a liable employer with the following 13 unemployment state agencies outside Michigan: Arizona, the District of Columbia, Idaho, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Texas, and West Virginia. Current and former employees who work in one or more of these 13 states, must file for benefits with one of these state agencies.

Current and former employees who live outside of the state of Michigan, but not in one of these 13 states may be able to file for unemployment with the State of Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency if certain criteria are met, including base period employers and wages. Current and former employees who work in more than one state may have the option of filing a Combined Wage Claim. Current and former employees should contact their local state unemployment agency for more information about Combined Wage Claim requirements, which vary by state.
