Define different topics within DEI that would be relevant to a student, faculty or staff group you will be talking to. Select the one that would most impact that audience.

Defend a recent decision that you made by aligning your unit's values to the final decision or the decision making process that was utilized.

Cultivate curiosity within your team whereby questions are asked, and ideas are encouraged and respected by all team members.

Create your own group of mentors who will meet with you to offer advice about your professional goals, aspirations, and challenges.

Create partnerships with entities outside of the University to partner on DEI-related programming.

Create or join a story telling interest group to promote DEI throughout the university.

Create focus groups to learn about areas of service, processes or systems that need improvement and how to see input into addressing those needs.

Create cross functional teams for a U-M initiative that you are working on.

Create and implement a buddy system for new hires to facilitate acculturation to the group.

Create and follow through with conversation guidelines for your team (e.g., everyone has a responsibility to share in discussions, challenge the idea and not the person, speak from experience, listen respectfully).
