Two new workshops are now available to give individuals the opportunity to expand their education toward interrupting and mitigating bias.

Interpersonal Strategies for Interrupting and Mitigating Bias in the Workplace is a workshop designed to provide learners with the opportunity to consider science-based research frameworks for interrupting and mitigating bias in the workplace on a personal level. We will investigate factors that trigger bias, and explore the implications of stereotypes in the workplace. We will also share research directly related to bias in the workplace. Participants will leave the workshop with a tailored plan and toolkit for interrupting and mitigating bias in the workplace.

Dates and Times: Thursday 1/7/21 and Tuesday 1/12/21 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. (two-day workshop)

Institutional Strategies for Interrupting and Mitigating Bias in the Workplace is a workshop designed to help participants identify institutional bias in the context of a university environment and understand the relationship between bias and culture. Participants will leave the workshop with a change model designed to overcome institutional bias.

Dates and Times: Friday 2/5/21 and Thursday 2/11/21 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. (two-day workshop)

As a prerequisite to the two new workshops, the Unconscious Bias Learning Suite is an online self-paced module that provides a review of bias, explores what bias can look like and examines how it shows up in the workplace.

Michigan Medicine employees: This learning suite does not fulfill the state requirement for implicit bias education. The Office for Health Equity and Inclusion will have an unconscious bias online course to fulfill the state requirement available in November 2020.

Hiring managers may be interested in Unconscious Bias in Recruiting and Hiring, which is also the fifth module of the learning suite.
