Black History Month 2023: Rooting for Everybody Black

BHM 23 is a collaborative effort between The Office of Multi-Ethnic Student Affairs (MESA) and student organizations, Support for Incoming Black Students (S.I.B.S.) and the Black Student Union (BSU) to make Black History Month a memorable experience for students, staff and faculty at the University of Michigan. BHM 23 is offering several events during the month of February including a gala-themed closing ceremony with the theme, “Rooting for Everybody Black.”

Michigan Medicine Reflects on the Contributions of Black Pioneers and Pathbreakers

Michigan Medicine Headlines highlights prominent Black leaders, visionaries and pioneers who have graduated from or worked at the University of Michigan Medical School and their contributions to the school and community. It mentions firsts such as the first Black man/woman to graduate, first African-American faculty member, first African-American female neurosurgeon in the US, first African-American dean of the U-M School of Nursing and the first president of the Ann Arbor chapter of the National Black Nurses Association. The article also highlights Michigan Medicine's commitment to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion and its progress towards that goal.

10 Ways to be Anti-Racist

Multi-Ethnic Student Affairs in Student Life compiled a list of tips and resources to help individuals continue to actively work to dismantle racism. The list features educational resources, practical tips for accountability and opportunities to actively support racial justice initiatives.

Business & Finance Black History Virtual Experience

To commemorate Black History Month in February 2019 and 2020, the B&F Finance DEI committee hosted a celebration at Wolverine Tower. The event showcased posters, videos, artifacts, poetry, interactive activities and other displays highlighting the achievements of lesser-known Black Americans. In response to the pandemic and to accommodate remote work, the event was digitized and made available on the Business and Finance website in 2022.
