Goals
What are the Goals of the U-M Child Care Initiative?
President Coleman has identified three key goals:
- Increasing the number of spaces available for children up to 5 years of age
- Developing an infant/toddler child care program
- Improving existing facilities on campus
Caring for children in a safe and developmentally appropriate environment is of tremendous importance to U-M students, staff and faculty. Access to high-quality, affordable care can significantly enhance the ability of our students, staff and faculty to contribute to the University community, pursue academic and professional goals and support parents as they strive for balance between work and family life.
How will the Goals be Reached?
We are seeking the ideas of community members and groups that are invested in U-M's existing child care programs and in the need for enhanced child care offerings.
A project management group has been established along with working groups devoted to key aspects of the Child Care Initiative including: Child care programming and facility design; teacher review; communications stakeholders; research stakeholders; parents.
