The University of Michigan recognized the University Staff United bargaining unit in February 2025. This bargaining unit represents employees in student and instructional services.

Employees in student and instructional services roles play a crucial part in supporting the University's educational mission and fostering a positive learning experience for all students.

Employees in the Instructional Services, Academic & Student Services, Arts, Libraries & Museums, Administration, and Research job families provide assistance to students in each of our 19 schools and colleges as well as Student Life across our three campuses.

The current USU contract expires on August 31, 2029.
