Definitions for Student Temporary Hires for the Ann Arbor campus
As you are reviewing these definitions, please see bottom section of the online Student Information page entitled “U-M Employment History.”
New Hire: The first temporary appointment an individual has held at the University. There should be no Empl Rcd#'s with a Jobcode Description that has "(Temp)" in the text.
Re-Hire: Former temporary employee being rehired to the University. There should only be Empl Rcd#'s with a Status of "T."
Additional Appointment: Concurrent appointment where the Job Code, Department or Comp Rate is different from an existing active appointment. There should at least be one Empl Rcd#' with a Status of "A."
Appointment Change: Change to an existing appointment. Please note that a change in Work-Study effective date status should be submitted on the Personnel Action Request(PAR). For assistance, see HRRIS Job Aids.

For any changes to temporary appointments, please create a Personnel Action Request (PAR).
Nepotism
If an applicant has recorded that a relative is a U-M employee when completing the online Student Employment Application; it is the hiring unit’s responsibility to ensure compliance with SPG 201.23, Appointment of Relatives or Others with Close Personal or External Business Relationships.

New Employee Orientation Requirements (Michigan Medicine only)
All regular and temporary Michigan Medicine employees are required to complete the Michigan Medicine New Employee Orientation (day one of the new employee orientation program). Contact the Michigan Medicine Solutions Center at 734-647-5538 for additional information.
