Approximately 4,000 Michigan Medicine employees are represented by the Service Employees International Union Healthcare Michigan (SEIU-HCMI). The unit includes service workers who support patient care, clinical operations, scheduling, call centers, medical records and coding, financial processing, and diagnostic services.

These employees receive key benefits such as health, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance; extended sick time with income protection; and financial safeguards like report-in and call-back pay.

The bargaining unit has been recognized since June 2023, with its first contract ratified on November 4, 2023. SEIU-HCMI expanded to include additional classifications in March 2025, and those employees ratified their agreement through an MOU on October 16, 2025.
