What’s new with U-M’s dental plans in 2026? The annual maximum benefit for Option 2 and Option 3 dental plans will increase to $1,500. View the 2026 Dental Coverage Comparison Chart for more information.

But First… Save the Dates

Open Enrollment for 2026 benefits takes place from Monday, Oct. 13, through Friday, Oct. 24, 2025 (ends at 5 p.m. Eastern Time).

Review Your Dental Plan Options

Three dental plan options are available to you through Delta Dental of Michigan.

  • Option 1 provides coverage for checkups, cleanings and x-rays. For most faculty, staff and retirees, the university pays the full premium. You will be responsible for minor and major restorative services.

  • Option 2 is an enhanced version of Option 1, with more coverage when services are provided by a PPO dentist. Example: Basic services such as fillings and root canals are covered at 100% when using a PPO dentist, compared to 60% coverage when using a Premier dentist.

  • Option 3 provides 100% coverage at PPO and Premier dentists for diagnostic, preventive and basic services and 50% coverage for major services (crowns, dentures, implants), with the highest employee contribution.

Think About Future Dental Needs

  • Will your child have their first dental check up in 2026? Remember to enroll them in a dental plan during Open Enrollment.

  • Will you or your covered dependent(s) need a dental service next year? If you’re enrolled in dental plan Option 1, consider enrolling in Option 2 or 3 for greater coverage.

  • Do you plan to retire next year? Make sure to enroll eligible dependents on your dental plan.
