Respond to Mental Health Concerns in the Workplace

Leaders and supervisors play an important role in supporting the mental health and well-being of their teams. Join Responding to Mental Health Concerns in the Workplace and learn best practices and strategies for recognizing and responding to mental and emotional health concerns in the workplace. This course is open to any U-M manager or supervisor who is interested in supporting the mental health and well-being of their team. 

You will learn to:

  • Identify signs of distress that your team members may exhibit 
  • Locate available mental and emotional health and supportive resources as needed 
  • Determine when to make referrals for colleagues to additional services
  • Use practical conversation points while engaging in a compassionate conversation

You will benefit by:

  • Practicing skills to engage in a caring conversation
  • Having a better understanding of the role of managers and supervisors in recognizing and responding to mental health concerns at work
  • Reflecting on your own emotional and communication styles as a leader
  • Building confidence in your ability to intervene when there are apparent mental or emotional health concerns with a colleague
  • Contributing to a work environment that reduces stigma about mental health concerns and treatment
