Once your department successfully loads the Fellowship Benefit Eligibility Load spreadsheet, M-Pathways processes information and opens Self Service > Benefits for elections for you the next day. An email is sent to your @umich.edu email account. If you need assistance with your benefits, please call the Shared Services Center at (734) 615-2000 or send an email to [email protected].
GEO members, GSRAs and benefit-eligible fellowship students will default to GradCare and Dental Option 1, you only coverage. You may add dependents, waive coverage, and elect Legal and Vision within 30 days. After your elections are submitted, a Confirmation Statement for verification of enrollment will be displayed. You will also receive a follow-up confirmation by email following submission. You should contact the Blue Care Network (GradCare) customer service center at (800) 658-8878 to report your primary care physician (PCP).
Enrollment information is sent to the health plan each Tuesday by 10:00 a.m. Health plan identification cards are produced and sent within one to two business days after the enrollment is processed by the health plan company.

GEO members with a 25% or Greater Appointment and GSRAs Defaults
- Immediate enrollment in you only GradCare coverage once the job or benefit eligibility has been entered into M-Pathways
- Immediate enrollment in you only Dental Option 1. University contributions are provided as of the date of hire/benefit eligibility
- Immediate enrollment in the University Life Insurance Plan
- May add dependents, waive coverage, elect other benefits within 30 days
GEO members with Less than a 25% Appointment
- Immediate enrollment in you only GradCare coverage once the job or benefit eligibility has been entered into M-Pathways
- Immediate enrollment in you only Dental Option 1. University contributions are provided as of the date of hire/benefit eligibility
Benefit-Eligible Fellowship Holders
- Immediate enrollment in you only GradCare coverage once the job or benefit eligibility has been entered into M-Pathways
- Immediate enrollment in you only Dental Option 1. University contributions are provided as of the date of hire/benefit eligibility
- May add dependents, waive coverage, elect Dental Option 2 or 3, Vision and Legal within 30 days
Benefit Eligible Medical School Students
- Defaults into you only GradCare coverage if no election to enroll or waive is made within 30 days
- Medical school students may add dependents, elect Dental Options 1, 2, or 3, Vision and Legal within 30 days
Change in Student Eligibility
If a student is consecutively appointed in the same student category from term to term (i.e., GSI Fall term, GSI Winter term), their current health plan coverage and other benefit elections will continue. When a benefit-eligible student changes from one student category to another, there may be a change in their benefit eligibility. They will receive notification of their new eligibility or termination of coverage if one of the following occurs:
