Want to Make a Change? Open Enrollment for 2024 Benefits is Oct. 16-27

Important Dates 

Open Enrollment for 2024 benefits is October 16-27, 2023 (ends at 5pm EST). It’s an opportunity for you to change your coverage in health, dental, vision and legal services plans. Benefits changes and new rates take effect Jan. 1, 2024. No action is required to keep current benefits, except for FSAs. You must re-enroll if you wish to participate in 2024.

New Health Plan Options

Medicare Advantage Plans

For Medicare eligible retirees and survivors, new Medicare Advantage Plans will replace Medicare supplemental plans January 1, 2024 and will match or provide more coverage than the supplemental plans. 

  • Copays will be the same, in some cases less, than the supplemental plans
  • Provides the same coverage but includes added benefits like Silver Sneakers
  • Most of the providers you currently see accept Medicare Advantage but be sure to confirm before selecting your health plan  

Services will be provided by:

  • PHP - Michigan Care Advantage
  • BCN - U-M Premier Care Advantage
  • BCBS - Medicare Advantage PPO

Consumer-Directed Health Plan

The university is offering a new, Consumer-Directed Health Plan (CDHP) with a Health Savings Account (HSA). This plan may appeal to those who prefer paying a higher deductible in exchange for lower monthly premiums. An HSA lets you put money away for future healthcare costs while saving on taxes. When you enroll in a CDHP, you’re also enrolled automatically into an HSA.

View Your 2024 Rates 

Take the time to review your current benefits and decide if you want to make different choices for next year. Your 2024 benefits plan rates are available in Wolverine Access.

  1. Go to Wolverine Access
  2. Select the Employee Self-Service tile 
  3. Select the Benefits tile 
  4. Click the Display Benefit Plan Rates tile. Current rates will be displayed at the top; scroll down to view your 2024 rates.

Reminders

  • Use health plan resources to your advantage: Resources are available to help you find the health plan that works best for you. 
  • Enroll in a Flexible Spending Account: You must re-enroll if you wish to participate in 2024.
  • Keep your address current: Update your address through Wolverine Access by selecting Employee Self Service > Campus Personal Information > Addresses > Current Local. 
  • Update your beneficiaries: Check your beneficiary designations for your U-M life insurance and retirement savings plan accounts.
  • Pay attention: Watch for information about all things Open Enrollment in UHR News, The University Record, emails and more.
