The application deadline is this Friday, April 17.

These days we are all doing whatever we can to help out. If you are looking for a way to make an ongoing impact in the workplace, apply to join Voices of the Staff.  It's a volunteer-based program that gives staff members a forum for sharing ideas and defining the campus community issues that matter most. In the coming months, as we all come back to campus, we invite you to join us.

Provide Input on Key Opportunities for Improvement

Voices of the Staff consists of six network teams, each with a specific area of focus.

  1. Advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
  2. Enhancing the Employee Experience
  3. Embracing Change and Leading at all Levels
  4. Fostering Learning, Coaching, and Mentoring
  5. Leveraging Technology; and
  6. Striving for Well-being.

Voices is comprised of a diverse population that accurately reflects the composition of the staff community campus-wide, including Michigan Medicine. Staff from UM-Dearborn and UM-Flint are appointed by each campus' respective HR leadership.

"Voices has given me opportunities to be creative, take chances and speak up in order to fully contribute to the University of Michigan's mission," says Susan Zill, an OR Nurse at Mott. "Through my work with the Voices Program Management Team and my participation on several university committees, including the MHealthy Advisory Committee, I have developed as a leader who can challenge the present in order to enrich the future."

Network teams are often called on to provide creative and effective staff input, develop resources and special events, and meet with key university leaders. Recent examples include Voices members

  1. providing input on campus climate issues;
  2. developing staff Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion events;
  3. Serving on selection committees for university-wide recognition events.

"Voices has helped shift my focus from my personal growth to helping those around me grow at the university," says Dan Rife, Building Services Director for the College of Literature, Science and Arts and Voices team member. “And in this way, it has helped me grow as a leader in my career. I strongly recommend that any staff interested in making our workplace the best it can be to get involved with Voices."
