Six Tips for Re-acclimating to On-site Work

In the fall of 2021, a large percentage of our faculty and staff are expected to return to campus for at least a couple of days each week. This new hybrid workstyle, like any major change, is likely to yield challenges for many of us. In fact, self-reported anxiety in adults has risen from 18.1% to 36% since the pandemic started. It will take time to adjust both emotionally and physically as routines change (hello commuting and parking).

Here are some key tips and campus resources to help your body, mind, and mood as you re-acclimate.

6 Tips for Self-Care 

  • Speak up – share your positives experiences from working remotely
  • Share what you’re looking forward to
  • List your goals going forward of working on-site – be specific and write down
    • what your goals are
    • who will help you reach your goals
    • when and how will you know that you’re successful
  • Take advantage of programs from MHealthy for healthy eating and fitness
  • Be kind, patient, and flexible – acknowledge that we do not know what others experiences and stories have been; many people may miss aspects of working remotely
  • Be respectful – consider how you communicate, avoid assumptions, and be supportive to those who are feeling anxious
