Become a Champion and Create a Healthier Workplace

Current Champions: Phyllis Taylor, Stephen King and Kasie Meszaros (with her coworkers)

Faculty and staff have an opportunity to play a role in their area's well-being efforts. Apply to become an MHealthy Champion by August 31.

“Having a Champion in your area is one of the most effective ways to foster a culture of health,” says Leola Hearing, project specialist for MHealthy. “Apply if you are passionate about health and well-being and like to support others.”

Currently, more than 400 employees volunteer as Champions. Active, benefits-eligible employees working onsite, remote or hybrid can apply.

A small amount of time equals big benefits

Champions serve a two-year term and spend about two hours per month on their duties:

  • Work with an MHealthy Wellness Coordinator to tailor activities for their area
  • Help their area achieve its health and well-being goals
  • Communicate to coworkers about MHealthy programs and resources
  • Encourage participation in well-being activities
  • Foster connection in today’s work environment

"Since implementing these programs, morale has improved,” says Kasie Meszaros, business administrator for Mcity. "What I find most valuable about being a Champion are the resources and community. They are always available to me. I've taken what I’ve learned and implemented new programs and events that fit my team's needs.”

Grants return to fund department wellness projects

Champions can also qualify to apply for wellness grants to support the needs of their coworkers. So far, MHealthy has awarded more than 180 grants. Funds have supported relaxation spaces, healthy snack baskets, exercise equipment, social connection activities and more. Grant information and requirements can be found on the MHealthy Champion webpage.

To become a Champion, apply by August 31. Before accepting the application, MHealthy will contact the candidate’s supervisor for approval. If you have questions, email [email protected].
