Take Ownership: To kick things off, think about how often you want to meet, how to choose the content and who to invite.
Choose the right amount of content: Make sure to agree with your club on the right amount of content. 20 - 30 minutes per week is a good starting point and it can be dialed up or down based on interest and topic. Make it fit your team - for example, our group uses 15 minutes of our monthly team meeting for this discussion of a 5 minute video.
Watch the content: Some members of your club might need a bit of extra encouragement. So make sure to check-in with them a few days before the live discussion.
Speed up the course: Short on time? Want to go through content faster? Try to increase the Playback Speed to 1.25x. However, do keep in mind that you need to be more focused on listening!
Listen to courses with audio only: Do you enjoy podcasts? Want to learn as you drive or ride to work? You can listen to all courses audio only, too.
Use slides to focus discussion: In order to add a little structure to your live discussions, you can create a couple slides with some learnings or specific situations. This can keep the discussion on track and meaningful.
Share responsibility: At some point after your first few sessions, you can think about rotating different moderators. You can even have a subject matter expert outside your group join a session.
Build rapport with remote and global offices: Clubs are a great way to build team cohesion with individuals in different offices. Get to know your co-workers and learn something together!
Spreading the word: Use your initial core group to get the message across to their colleagues about your new conversation club. Then when it’s up and running, keep the team regularly updated with quick emails making sure they know what to watch and by when.
Get the mix right: Not every course needs to be about developing your soft skills or come from the business library. Most of us have cameras (i.e. smart phones) so consider a photography course to get those creative juices flowing.
