LinkedIn Learning FAQs

Here is a list of frequently asked questions to help you navigate LinkedIn Learning. If you have any additional questions, please contact our LinkedIn Learning feedback team.

Who is eligible to use LinkedIn Learning?
LinkedIn Learning is available at no cost to all active faculty, staff (including temporary employees) and students at the University of Michigan.
Will I have access to the same content in LinkedIn Learning as I did with Lynda.com?
Yes. LinkedIn acquired Lynda.com and you will have access to content that was previously available through Lynda.com.
Will I lose all of the information in my current Lynda.com account when the University of Michigan upgrades to LinkedIn Learning?
Your entire Lynda.com history will be migrated to your LinkedIn Learning account as long as you activate your LinkedIn Learning account prior to May 31, 2020.
What is the benefit of connecting my LinkedIn profile to my LinkedIn Learning account?
Connecting your profile will allow for a more personalized learning experience that includes special course recommendations based on your job title, skills and industry listed on your LinkedIn profile. It will also allow you to migrate your content to a new account. For example: upon graduation, or if you leave the university and are employed by a company that uses LinkedIn Learning, your data from your U-M LinkedIn Learning account will be migrated to your new LinkedIn Learning account with a connected profile. You can also purchase a paid subscription and migrate your content that way, as long as you connect your LinkedIn profile prior to leaving the university.
What information will be shared with my employer if I connect my personal LinkedIn profile to my LinkedIn Learning account?
Learning activity such as courses viewed or completed, profile information like your name, work title and profile photo and any courses from your personal account that you’ve transferred to your group account. We will not have access to your connections, private messages, any job search activity such as job posts you’ve viewed and any learning courses you’ve viewed in your personal account.
Do I need a LinkedIn account to use LinkedIn Learning?
It is optional if you would like to create a LinkedIn account. Creating a LinkedIn profile provides you with a more personalized learning experience, because it recommends courses based on what other professionals like you are watching. LinkedIn members also have the ability to control what others can view from their profile, via the Settings & Privacy page.
I am an alumni/affiliate/associate, can I use LinkedIn Learning?
Alumni, affiliates and associates are not permitted access under the current university contract. If you would like to personally purchase access, please visit linkedin.com/learning for more information.
How long will I have access to LinkedIn Learning?
You can log into LinkedIn Learning with your @umich.edu information as long as you are a current U-M student, faculty member, temporary employee or staff member. Most will have access to LinkedIn Learning accounts for 30 days after leaving the university.
How often are there updates and new course offerings?
Typically dozens of courses are added each week.
