  • Evaluate your existing interview strategies and approaches
  • Determine differences between functional and behavioral questions and how to deploy them effectively
  • Structure your interviews for consistency and fairness

You will benefit by:

  • Practicing with a virtual reality candidate and receiving real-time coaching
  • Knowing how to structure effective interviews
  • Gaining advanced interviewing skills, including a deeper understanding of assessing  candidate skills
  • Understanding how this model supports equity and fairness

Audience

Any U-M faculty or staff member involved in interviewing during a hiring process, especially hiring managers and hiring team members

Registration Note

Due to the use of specialized equipment and paid licenses for this course, there is limited enrollment for each session. You may be initially placed on a waitlist while our administrators make sure that each session has the necessary resources. It’s also possible that you will be offered a different date if your initial requested date reaches capacity. The waitlist will be processed by registration date from oldest to newest.

Program Notes

We recommend watching Preparing for a Behavior-Based Interview (9 min) video in advance of your session. It is also helpful, but not required, to have previous interviewing experience.

Sessions held at the Boyer building will require the use of your laptop and will not use virtual reality goggles. Sessions held at the Center for Academic Innovation will use virtual reality goggles.

For those whose sensory system is disrupted by exposure to virtual reality, it is recommended that you register for one of the sessions held at the Boyer building. The headset experience available during sessions at the Center for Academic Innovation is not recommended for those individuals.

If there are no upcoming sessions available, please contact [email protected] to request the desktop training.

After the training, you will have access to the desktop Behavior-Based Interviewing training until October 30, 2026. You can use this access to continue practicing your skills. Access also includes a library of additional vendor-provided immersive learning modules.
