About HOA

Approximately 1,250 employees at Michigan Medicine are members of the House Officers Association. House Officers play an important role in Michigan Medicine’s education, research and patient care missions through a variety of work, predominantly in the areas of patient care.

Since 1973, the university has recognized these House Officers as a bargaining unit.  House Officers covered by this contract are eligible for a comprehensive package including generous health care benefits, paid medical and parental leave, a specialized long term disability plan, and a yearly payment to encourage savings.

From February 2023 until June 2023, bargaining teams from Michigan Medicine and HOA negotiated a new four-year contract. The contract was ratified in June 2023 and is in effect until 2027. Information and updates can be found on the Michigan Medicine Human Resources website
