Integrating a new Generation at Work

  • Tuesday  5/12 | Noon - 1:00 pm
  • Presenter Jill Castro

This presentation delves into the unique characteristics, values, and expectations that define Gen Z as they enter and navigate the workforce. We will explore how their upbringing in a digital era shapes their career aspirations, communication styles, and attitudes towards work-life balance as well as discuss tips for working on multi-generational teams. 

What Happens in Counseling, Overview of Models of Therapy & Selecting a therapist

  • Wednesday  5/13 | 12:15 -1:00 pm
  • Presenter: Tom Waldecker

This presentation will provide information on what one can expect from counseling, an overview of the primary types of therapeutic models and summarize the kind of mental health providers. In addition, suggestions on how to select a provider for you. The styles and approaches that Counselors use will be reviewed  (CBT, behaviorist, family systems, psychoanalysis and humanistic). Some sample questions to ask when choosing one will be offered. In addition, a brief overview of how to identify and locate support groups will be provided.

Defining and Cultivating Happiness

  • Monday 5/18 | Noon - 1:00 p.m.
  • Presenter: Janell Kilgore

Come explore what happiness can look like in your life and how to cultivate and maintain a sense of happiness, contentment, and well-being in your life. This is an interactive presentation so come prepared to share your understanding and experiences. 

Recognizing & Managing One's Anger

  • Tuesday 5/19 | 12:15 pm - 1:00 pm
  • Presenter: Tom Waldecker

This short interactive presentation helps introduce one in how to recognize and then manage their anger appropriately. The session  reviews the four "Cue Areas" there are to anger so that we can choose to respond better to situations that trigger our anger vs. react . Some strategies will be provided that one can add to their anger control plan.  

Cultivating Mindful Self-Compassion & Gratitude

  • Wednesday 5/20 | 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
  • Presenter: Alex Jendrusina

Light on time but looking for some tips to be your best self? A new offering format, FASCCO counselor Alex Jendrusina will briefly cover 3 different topics during this lunch-time zoom presentation. First, we will review research-based strategies to manage worry, then introduce a framework to help you make more fulfilling decisions in your life, and conclude highlighting tools to improve your sleep. As an attendee, you can expect to hear a handful of strategies across these topics that can be immediately brought into your day to day life.

Job Stress and Burnout: What is it?

  • Wednesday 5/27 | 11:00 am - 11:30 pm
  • Presenter: Andrew Greifer

This 30 minute presentation on the identification of job stress and burnout.  The presentation will address the definition, measurement, and signs and symptoms of job stress and burnout. It will also discuss causes of this form of distress.

Discussion and Support Groups 

Support Group for Motherhood and Returning to Work

The Faculty & Staff Counseling & Consultation Office (FASCCO) offers an ongoing drop-in style support group to discuss experiences related to motherhood and the return-to-work transition following the birth and/or adoption of a child. The group is designed to address participants’ experiences from the third trimester of pregnancy through the time their child is two years old.

The group will address various topics, including preparing for maternity leave, work/life balance, separation anxiety, familial adjustments, lactation support, baby blues, sleep hygiene, feeding issues, childcare, returning to work, and building a postpartum support system. This offering emphasizes group discussion of participant experiences as well as educational components. There is no charge for staff or faculty to attend.

LGBT+ Connection Group

A virtual opportunity to build social connections, support one another in a safe and inclusive space and have open discussions. The group will meet virtually once per month and is facilitated by Jill Castro, PsyD, counselor in the Faculty & Staff Counseling & Consultation Office.
