The Graduate Employees’ Organization (GEO), American Federation of Teachers, AFL-CIO Local 3550, was recognized in April 1974. The union represents approximately 2,263 Graduate Student Instructors (GSI) and Graduate Student Staff Assistants (GSSA) across the Ann Arbor, Dearborn and Flint campuses.

The current collective bargaining agreement with GEO is a three-year contract that took effect on August 25, 2023. It expires on May 1, 2026.
