Courageous Conversations

In this course, you will learn how to have important and sometimes uncomfortable conversations. These talks are called "courageous conversations." They help us understand each other, share our feelings, and make our relationships stronger and better.

During the course, you will explore:

  • The basics of how we communicate 

  • Why courageous conversations are important

  • The key ideas behind courageous conversations

  • Helpful tips and guidelines to make these conversations successful

This course is a chance for university faculty and staff to connect better with each other and grow together. Join us and become more confident when having courageous conversations!

You will learn to:

  • Discover how communication works

  • Identify how relationships can affect the way we talk to each other

  • Explain the main ideas behind courageous conversations

  • Define specific ways to start and hold a courageous conversation

You will benefit by:

  • Improving your communication skills with others

  • Gaining more confidence when talking about tough topics

  • Building stronger relationships through meaningful conversations

Audience: 

Any U-M faculty or staff member who would like to develop their communication skills

Program Notes: 

Attending the Courageous Conversations: Learning in Action Lab after completing this course is highly recommended. The lab provides an opportunity to practice courageous conversations and build communication skills.
