Eligible U-M faculty and staff are reminded to use this year’s newly added floating holiday, which provides one paid day per year. The floating holiday offers flexibility to observe a day of personal significance or an additional holiday not observed by the university. This benefit is available to all regular employees with a minimum of a 20% effort appointment. Those covered by a collective bargaining agreement should consult their contract for details on eligibility for the holiday.
Important Reminders:
-
Requests should follow the standard time-off approval process as outlined by your supervisor or department.
-
The floating holiday must be taken before the end of the calendar year; unused time will be forfeited.
-
The floating holiday must be taken as a full day (up to 8 hours for full-time employees) and cannot be split into smaller increments.
-
Time should be reported using the HFT (Holiday Floating Time) code.
For more information, please visit the Floating Holiday FAQs webpage or contact your unit’s HR representative.
