No More Jams (or Jamboards) as of December 31

Google has announced that it will retire Jamboard, its digital whiteboard service, starting Oct. 1. The service and its physical devices will be completely discontinued by Dec. 31.

The effects of this transition will be visible on all campuses on Oct. 1:

  • Jamboard’s service will become “view only.” Participants will no longer be able to create Jamboard files (“Jams”) or edit existing Jams on any platform.
  • Google will begin converting existing Jams to PDFs, which will be saved in the same Google Drive location as the Jam. To ensure your Jams are saved, Information Technology Services (ITS) recommends that you export your Jams as PDFs or PNGs and save them to your folders.
  • Jamboard devices will eventually go into “offline mode.” This means Jams can no longer be opened or edited. Google also will no longer provide security updates or new features.

At present, UHR Finance, Facilities and Technology Solutions has no alternative for the Jamboard service. If you’re interested in a whiteboard service or device, the department can help you explore third-party solutions; email [email protected].
