Introduction to Leadership at U-M

Whether you are currently in a formal leadership position or aspire to hold such a position, this course lays the groundwork. This session will assist faculty and staff to develop the essential leadership skills necessary to lead a team of individuals at U-M. The content will be helpful whether you are in a formal leadership position or not. 

You will learn to:

  • Identify the competencies and skills necessary to successfully lead others
  • Navigate the stages of team development 
  • Employ an effective feedback-giving model

You will benefit by:

  • Discovering your individual values as a leader and how they connect to the U-M values
  • Reviewing the Michigan Expectations Model for resources that will help you become a more successful leader
  • Connecting with other leaders across the U-M community

Audience:

Any U-M faculty or staff interested in developing the essential leadership skills needed at the university

(U-M Medical School faculty should consider Essential Skills for Successful Leadership instead)

Program Notes: 

This program is highly interactive and includes small group breakout sessions. The webinar link and some recommended pre-class work will be sent in the registration confirmation email.

While some departments, schools and colleges may have their own supervisory training, this session is intended to provide a more generalized overview of the skills needed to lead at U-M.
