Support Colleagues and Help Kids on Giving Blueday

The generosity of the U-M community is inspiring. March 13 is Giving Blueday, the university’s annual day of online giving, where thousands come together to support colleges, schools and worthy causes. If you are planning to give, consider supporting your fellow colleagues, through the MHealthy Resource Coach mini-grant program, and the health of Michigan’s youth, through Project Healthy Schools.

Resource Coach Program: Helping Colleagues in Need

In challenging times, it can be difficult to know where to turn for help. The MHealthy Resource Coach Program helps U-M and Michigan Medicine employees find practical solutions to difficult situations. Assistance comes in the form of case management services, connections to community and local resources, and in some cases, financial support for employees experiencing a financial crisis or other personal hardship.

Your gift will go directly to funding the need-based mini-grants for U-M faculty and staff. For example, a donation of:

  • $50 helps restore a utility service.

  • $150 helps cover car repairs.

  • $500 helps avoid an eviction.

The Resource Coach program has already assisted hundreds of employees dealing with a temporary crisis.

As expressed by a former client, “You’ve done more good for us than you can imagine. I know it’s not much money to some people, but as I’m sure you know, just one runaway bill can have such a disastrous effect on everything else. Now we can breathe easier, let go of our fear, and focus on what matters. Thank you. You’re fighting the good fight, one person at a time.”

If you are able, consider making a financial donation to support the mini-grant program on Giving Blueday, March 13. Visit the MHealthy Resource Coach Mini-Grant webpage for more information on the program.

Project Healthy Schools: Teaching Kids Healthy Habits for Life

Project Healthy Schools is a community-University of Michigan collaborative and evidence-based program that aims to improve the current and future health of Michigan’s youth.  This program is a subset of MHealthy and enables middle school students to increase physical activity, eat healthier, and understand how nutrition and activity influence their lifelong health. Please consider supporting Project Healthy Schools on Giving Blueday. Since 2004, Project Healthy Schools has been implemented in over 150 schools across the state of Michigan.

PHS relies on gifts from people like you to sustain the program year after year in existing schools and to reach more schools across the state, benefiting future generations of students.

For example, a donation of:

  • $50 buys a sports ball package for physical education class.

  • $100 buys a professional blender and supplies for a smoothie tasting wellness initiative.

  • $500 buys pickleball nets and equipment for a school’s PE program.

You can also encourage your family and friends to contribute by following Project Healthy Schools on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram and sharing the Giving Blueday announcements.

For more information, visit the Project Healthy Schools website.  On Giving Blueday, March 13, go to the Project Healthy Schools funding page.
