2009 Holiday, Season and Vacation Scheduling
MEMO TO: Deans, Directors, and Department Heads
FROM: Laurita Thomas, Associate Vice President for Human Resources
SUBJECT: Holiday, Season Day, and Vacation Scheduling for 2009
(SPG 201.26--Holidays; SPG 201.26-1--Season Days)
This memorandum is being issued to assist you in planning work and vacation schedules for the 2009 calendar year. The University will observe seven (7) official holidays within those 12 months:
- Memorial Day: Monday, May 25
- Independence Day: Friday, July 3
- Labor Day: Monday, September 7
- Thanksgiving Day and the day following: Thursday and Friday, November 26 and 27
- Christmas Day: Friday, December 25
- New Year's Day: Friday, January 1, 2010
In addition, for those units of the University who will observe four (4) Season Days, they are: December 28, 29, 30 and 31.
Because other days may be of more significance than a University-designated holiday, a staff member may request approval to substitute up to three (3) holidays of his/her choice for any three (3) University holidays. Written request of substitution(s) for the upcoming fiscal year must be given to the immediate supervisor on or before July 1st of that year.
Health System employees covered by a paid time off (PTO) plan may request time off during the winter holidays consistent with their department policies. Departments may also assign paid time off (or no pay time if requested by the employee and permitted by the department’s policy) during this period to accommodate reduced workload or unit closure.
Employees in bargaining units observe holidays and Season Days as indicated in their respective agreements. If you have questions relating to this policy or contractual provisions, please call one of the following offices:
