Regular Staff Wage Schedules

On July 1, 2005, the University-wide Career Family Classification System became effective and salary ranges associated with the previous classification system became inactive. As part of the new system, units may develop pay ranges that support their compensation philosophy using labor market referenced data available through M-Pathways. The University expects units to ensure that all regular staff are paid at or above the minimum full-time rate of $21,500 per year or $10.34 per hour.

The Federal minimum wage will increase to $6.55per hour, on July 24, 2008, for covered non exempt employees. The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) establishes the minimum wage, overtime pay, recordkeeping and child labor standards affecting workers in the private sector and in Federal, State and local governments. Where state law requires a higher minimum wage rate, the higher standard applies. Effective July 1, 2008, in Michigan, the minimum wage will increase from $7.15 per hour to $7.40 per hour.

Minimum wage legislation passed in the state of Michigan increases the current minimum wage rate to $7.40/hour effective July 1, 2008.  Temporary employees on the payroll as of July 1 who earn less than $7.40/hour will need adjusting to the new minimum rate.  For questions about changes to the Michigan minimum wage and covered employees, contact the compteam@umich.edu
