Resources: A Quick Guide for Classification Review
University Human Resources will conduct classification reviews under the following circumstances:
- When establishing a new “slotted” job code
- In response to a unit’s request
- When auditing selected positions and classifications
- When a unit is changing the FLSA exemption status of a job incumbent from non-exempt to exempt
- When a unit decides to change the exemption status of a vacant position previously classified as non-exempt to an exempt position for posting purposes, the unit needs to notify their HR rep prior to posting the position.
Tools for Classification Review
This Quick Guide is intended to provide easy access to the tools you need for properly documenting position descriptions for classification reviews or for requesting job classification changes.
The Position Description Form
The Position Description Form (PDF) is the starting point and primary tool for initiating a classification review for all regular staff and bargained-for positions. The purpose of this form is to formally document the content of a job, including job functions, duties, scope, and the minimum and preferred qualifications. This form can be completed electronically and sent as an email attachment.
When requesting job classification changes or for classifying new positions, send the completed PDF form to your designated Staff HR Representative.
