| BASIC FUNCTION
AND RESPONSIBILITY |
| To perform complex
mechanical work on the installation, set up, dismantling, moving, maintenance
and repair of heavy machinery related to Central Powerhouse turbines and boilers. |
| CHARACTERISTIC
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES |
|
Install boiler
and turbine equipment such as pumps, air compressors, fans, valves and all related
auxiliary equipment.
Balance, set and align Power Plant equipment and check tightness, alignments and
settings to prevent defects or wear.
Inspect all Power Plant equipment for defects or wear, and determine whether repair,
replacement or maintenance is necessary for proper operation.
Fabricate parts by machining or cutting metal and bending heavy steel pipe.
May direct the work of Powerhouse Maintenance and Repairpersons or other designated
assistants.

DUTIES |
Dismantle and
repair boiler and/or turbine equipment using cranes, cables, slings, rope-falls,
riggings, scaffolding, booms, block and tackle and any other apparatus for moving
heavy objects.
Maintain boiler, turbine and related equipment through preventive maintenance
such as fitting and adjusting bearings, packing or lubrication.
Repair, maintain or replace electrical motors, pumps, heat exchangers, valves
and all other components of turbines and boilers.
Observe fire and safety precautions. |

| QUALIFICATIONS |
|
Graduation from
a four year trade or vocational high school with mechanical courses and completion
of an apprentice ship in machine repair or allied trade, or six to eight years
progressively responsible experience in machine repair or other related trade
is necessary.
Ability to tolerate high levels of heat and noise is necessary.
Considerable mechanical aptitude is necessary.
Ability to interpret relevant blue prints, diagrams, sketches and specification
is necessary.
Ability to use precision tools such as micrometers, vibration meters and balancing
equipment is necessary.
Some previous boiler and turbine repair and maintenance experience is desirable.
Thorough knowledge of safety standards and procedures is necessary.
Ability to exercise tact and discretion is relationships with subordinates and
staff is necessary.
Physical ability to perform the full range of duties of the classification is
necessary.
