TITLE: HVAC REPAIRPERSON I - FLINT GRADE: E4

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
To perform routine and planned maintenance and repair work related to HVAC and Central Energy Plant equipment on the Flint campus.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintain boiler, refrigeration, air handling and related equipment through preventative maintenance, such as replacing parts and fittings, and packing and lubricating bearings.
Repair and maintain boiler and refrigeration equipment, such as pumps and compressors.
Inspect HVAC, refrigeration and hydronic environmental systems for defects or wear, and determine whether repair, replacement or maintenance is necessary for proper operation.
Balance, set and align power plant and circuit equipment and check tightness, alignment and settings to prevent defects and wear.
Assist in the dismantling, repairing and replacing HVAC and related equipment using cranes, slings, riggings, scaffolding, booms, block and tackle and other moving equipment.
Repair and replace electrical motors, pumps and related equipment, such as seals and bearing assemblies.
Repair air compressors, heat exchangers, valves, fans and other components of equipment in the Central Energy Plant and on the circuit.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Supervision is received from a designated official.
QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from a four year trade or vocational high school with mechanical courses and completion of an apprenticeship in machine repair or allied trade, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary.
Reasonable mechanical aptitude is necessary.
Some boiler and HVAC equipment repair and maintenance experience is necessary.
Ability to interpret blueprints, sketches and specifications is necessary.
Ability to use precision tools, such as micrometers, vibration meters and balancing equipment is necessary.
Ability to tolerate high levels of heat and noise is necessary.
Considerable knowledge of safety standards and procedures is necessary.
