TITLE: AUTOCLAVE MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRPERSON GRADE: E4
 

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

To operate and perform maintenance and repair work related to boilers and waste autoclaves and supporting equipment; and to coordinate and perform the loading of autoclave waste material.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintain waste autoclaves and related equipment through preventive maintenance such as fitting and adjusting bearings, packing or lubrication.
Maintain boilers for waste autoclaves and Health Systems out clinics and related equipment through inspections and preventive maintenance such as fitting and adjusting bearing, packing or lubrication.
Inspect all waste autoclave plant equipment for defects or wear and determine whether repair, replacement or maintenance is necessary for proper operation.
Balance, set and align waste autoclaves and boiler equipment and check tightness, alignments, and settings to prevent defects or wear.
Repair, Maintain or replace electrical motors, pumps, heat exchangers, valves, cooling towers, grinders and all other components of waste autoclaves and boilers.
Dismantle and repair boiler and waste autoclaves using cranes, cables, slings, rope-falls, riggings, scaffolding, booms, block and tackle, and any other apparatus for moving heavy objects.

RELATED DUTIES:

Run and maintain computerized control systems of autoclaves and boilers.
Generate monthly or on demand computer reports pertaining to autoclave system, amount of waste autoclaved, etc.
Inspect, install and repair steam pipes and insulation, valves, pumps and safety devices.
Inspect and adjust automatic or manual boiler control mechanisms.
Clean, inspect and perform routine maintenance on equipment and facilities including, but not limited to oiling, greasing, repair of furnace refractories and repacking of leaking packing glands.
Observe fire, safety and EPA precautions.    

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Supervision is received from a designated official and may be received from the Autoclave Maintenance And Repairperson Leader.

QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from a four year trade or vocational high school with mechanical coursed and four years progressively responsible experience in boiler operations and repair, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary.
Reasonable maritime or powerhouse experience with high-pressure boiler operations is necessary.
Ability to tolerate high levels of heat and noise is necessary.
Reasonable mechanical aptitude is necessary.
Reasonable knowledge of the equipment, methods, and materials used in boiler operations is necessary.
Reasonable knowledge of the operation and maintenance requirements of high-pressure boilers and related equipment is necessary. 
Ability to regulate boiler operations is necessary. 
Physical ability to perform the full range of duties of the classification if necessary.
