TITLE: CABINET MAKER GRADE: T6

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
To fabricate and prepare for finishing various wood, formica, plastics and composition board structures and fixtures.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Lay out, cut, shape and assemble components for various wood, plastic and composition structures and sub-assemblies.
Plan sequency of cutting and shaping operations to be followed in production of components.
Assemble prepared components for various structures, including chairs, desks, cabinets, bookcases, picture frames and paneled doors using nails, screws, bolts, glue, clamps and carpentry tools.
Prepare structures for finish application by planing, shaping and sanding using both hand and power operated tools.
Perform laminating activities using various materials.
Apply sheets of formica to such structures as desk and counter tops.
Lay out and machine components from wood stock using hand and power tools, including saw, jig, jointer, drillpress, lathe and router.
Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches and job specifications.
Alter or repair furniture or fixtures, including chairs, desks, cabinets and bookcases.
Install and repair hardware, including hinges, lock units, venetian blinds, door closures and drapery rods.
Recane chairs.
Determine type and dimensions of wood stock to be used.
Set up, adjust and perform minor repairs on carpentry equipment and maintain and clean tools and working area.
Prepare records and service reports of materials and time expended.

QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from high school.
Reasonable recent experience in fabrication and repair of cabinets, shelves, bookcases and other finished structures and fixtures.
Considerable knowledge of the tools, methods and materials used in cabinet making.
Reasonable manual strength and dexterity.
Ability to observe safety precautions in the operation of power equipment.
Skill in the operation of hand and power tools.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications.
