TITLE: COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER GRADE: S5

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
To receive calls for police, emergency or security assistance; dispatch police and security staff to ensure a safe and secure environment and protect University facilities; and to provide security services.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Monitor building alarm and security systems including closed circuit security monitors and electronic alarms.
Receive and respond to requests for emergency and safety assistance, and dispatch police and security staff to University facilities.
Maintain liaison with police, fire and other emergency agencies to assure the safety of students, staff and the general public.
Maintain records of all security calls received and action taken.
RELATED DUTIES
Patrol University property, including properties located outside the Ann Arbor city limits, to deter crime, ensure safety of students, faculty, patients, and staff and protect property.
Respond to emergency requests and coordinate appropriate police, fire and medical assistance.
Provide traffic and crowd control at sports events, concerts and other University sponsored activities.
Conduct preliminary investigations and prepare reports of injuries, damage and theft.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
General supervision is received by a Security Supervisor or other designated official.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Functional supervision may be exercised over Guards, temporary staff and contract security personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from high school or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary; a Bachelor's degree in criminal justice is desirable.
Some knowledge of police, fire and safety procedures is necessary.
Some security experience is necessary.
