FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY |
| To
provide security services; act as liaison with federal, state
and local police, fire and security agencies; and to represent
the University to faculty, students, staff, patients and the public. |
| CHARACTERISTIC
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES |
Act as liaison with federal, state and local police, fire and
safety agencies such as the Ann Arbor Police Department, Ann Arbor
Fire Department, Michigan State Police and the Federal Bureau
of Investigation.
Patrol University property, including properties located outside
the Ann Arbor city limits, to deter crime, ensure the safety of
students, faculty, patients and staff and protect University property.
Provide response to emergency requests and coordinate appropriate
police, fire and medical assistance.
Provide escorts to ensure the personal safety of visiting dignitaries
and assist federal, state and local agencies assigned to protect
dignitaries.
Provide traffic and crowd control at sports events, concerts and
other University sponsored activities.
Coordinate the acquisition and distribution of confidential information
from federal, state and local criminal justice records. |

DUTIES |
Conduct
preliminary investigations and prepare reports of injury, damage
or theft on or involving University property.
Receive and respond to calls for emergency assistance.
Evaluate and respond to emergencies by requesting fire, medical
or maintenance assistance.
Stand guard and patrol areas to prevent theft, violence, vandalism
or infractions of rules.
Prepare written incident and security reports.
Conduct routine investigative procedures.
Provide information and general assistance to the public and staff.
Observe the conduct of persons to detect dangerous or criminal
practices or violations of University regulations.
Detain, search and question suspects. |

| General
supervision is received from a Security Supervisor or other designated
official. |

EXERCISED |
| Functional
supervision may be exercised over Guards, temporary staff and
contract security guards. |
| QUALIFICATIONS |
Graduation
from high school or an equivalent combination of education and
experience is necessary.
Some prior police experience, successful completion of an approved
police officer training program, or experience as a security officer
is necessary. |
