TITLE: GUARD GRADE: S1

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
To maintain security by patrolling and monitoring building alarm and security systems; initiate emergency procedures; and to refer calls to ensure a safe and secure environment and protect University buildings and grounds from fire, vandalism, trespass, theft and intrusion.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintain security by patrolling or monitoring security and building alarm systems including closed circuit security monitors and electronic computer reports.
Maintain liaison with police, fire and other emergency agencies to assure the safety of students, staff, patients and visitors.
Assist in emergency procedures such as locating patients, restraining unruly persons, assisting ambulance or emergency room personnel, or aiding in the evacuation of buildings.
Collect passes or examine credentials at entrances.
Stand watch at exhibitions, showings or other events where art or valuable artifacts are displayed.
Warn violators of rule infractions such as smoking, loitering or trespassing.
Report unusual conditions or malfunctioning of heating, plumbing or electrical systems.
Dissuade persons from continuing unacceptable conduct or practices.

RELATED DUTIES

Receive and route requests via computer for security and safety services.
Maintain and record department records including the operation of on-line computer terminals.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Supervision is received from a Security Officer or other designated official.

QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from high school or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary.
Some knowledge of fire, safety and emergency procedures is necessary.
Some security experience is necessary.
Some experience with automated information systems is desirable.
