TITLE: REGISTERED NURSE – LEVEL A GRADE: LEVEL A
 

CLINICAL SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Performs assessment and identifies appropriate nursing diagnosis and/or patient care standard with assistance.
Recognizes data and identifies obvious nursing diagnoses.
Practice is guided primarily by policies, procedures, and standards.
Identifies expected outcomes and nursing interventions to meet identified diagnosis and   maintain standards of clinical practice.
Evaluates patients based on basic standards.
Utilizes standard unit technology and with assistance uses advanced technology as appropriate.
With assistance, identifies basic patient/family learning needs, initiates teaching using patient teaching protocols, patient care standards and critical paths.
Utilizes patient education resources on the unit.
Identifies location of and utilizes hospital policies and unit procedures and protocols.
Adheres to hospital policies related to medication safety.
Familiar with and follows standards related to patient and staff safety.
Completes applicable documentation forms in a timely manner according to policy with minimal guidance.

Recognizes how the nurse patient/family relationship impacts the patient experience.
Establishes open communication, introduces self as a Registered Nurse and describes role.
Recognizes need for patient and family to participate in care.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Engages in self assessment related to orientation and initial learning needs and seeks out unit resources to assist in meeting needs.
Completes mandatory/competency requirements.
With guidance, provides respectful feedback to preceptors, peers, and manager related to orientation and initial learning experience.

ADVANCING PRACTICE THROUGH INNOVATION AND RESEARCH

Reads clinical articles.
Participates in unit/area based Continuous Quality Improvement projects.
Has knowledge of and supports established nursing improvement projects/endeavors in practice setting.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Supervision is received from a Nurse Manager or other designated official.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Functional supervision is typically exercised over LPN’s, Nurse Aides, Allied Health, Service Maintenance, and other support staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

Successful completion of a program in nursing is necessary.
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan is necessary.
This classification requires Primary Source Verification.
