TITLE:

NURSE ANESTHE

GRADE:

N6

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

To administer, manage, monitor, and assess the effects of anesthesia; and to instruct students and residents in the administration and management of anesthesia.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Plan and administer local, intraveneous, spinal-caudal and other anesthetic according to prescribed medical standards.
Instruct student nurse anesthetists, anesthesia residents and medical students in the administration of anesthesia.
Monitor patient condition throughout the care period and advise anesthesiologists of patient status.
Operate and monitor the functioning of anesthesia machines, monitors, analyzers, emergency and other equipment.
Interpret readings from monitoring devices and initiate measures to counteract adverse reactions or complications.
Participate in pre and post-operative evaluation of patients.
Educate patients to anesthesia procedures and obtain written consents.
Perform trachea intubations and manage airway emergencies.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

General supervision is received from the Chief Nurse Anesthetist.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Functional supervision is exercised over Operating Room Aides.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in nursing or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary.
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan is necessary.
One year experience as an RN in an Intensive Care Unit is necessary.
Successful completion of an approved course in Anesthesia and certification by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists are necessary.
This position requires Primary Source Verification.
