TITLE: CLINICAL NURSE CONSULTANT GRADE: N4
 

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

To serve as a nursing consultant to a clinical area, the Hospital and the health care community; and to provide clinical nursing leadership in administrative, educational and research activities.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Consult with Head Nurses and nursing staff regarding nursing practice and care of patients with complex problems.
Coordinate clinician activities in specialty area including developing and evaluating performance plans.
Coordinate nursing quality assurance activities.
Participate in research studies including writing and preparing articles for publication.
Evaluate, interpret and integrate research findings into nursing practice.
Provide leadership in various area administrative committees including patient education, joint practices, information/communication, and computerized inpatient census system.
Develop objectives, coordinate, prepare presentations, present in-services and evaluate educational programs.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Direction is received from a Director or Assistant Director of Nursing.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Functional supervision is exercised over Clinical Nurses and support staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in nursing or related field is necessary.
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan is necessary.
Five or more years nursing experience as an R.N. including two or more years post graduate degree is necessary.
Eligibility for appointment in the School of Nursing is desirable.
This position requires Primary Source Verification.
