TITLE: EDUCATIONAL NURSE SPECIALIST GRADE: N4
 

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

To plan, develop and implement nursing educational programs for orientation, in-service education and staff development; to assess educational needs of nursing staff; and to advise nursing management on educational goals and objectives.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Design, implement, and evaluate programs for orientation, in-service education, and staff development of nursing staff.
Advise nursing management in the establishment of priorities for educational programs regarding nursing practice.
Develop and apply methodologies for assessing the educational needs of nursing staff.
Provide consultation to nursing staff and management on educational theories for problem-solving.
Design and implement educational programs to meet accreditation and practice standards.
Participate in the formal and informal instruction of nursing staff and students.
Develop and maintain systems to document the results of educational programs.
Design and participate in the production of self-instructional and multi-media educational programs.
Design, market, conduct and evaluate educational programs for the external nursing community.
Participate in coordinating, reviewing and evaluating the work of Educational Nurse Coordinators.
Design and conduct research activities related to nursing education.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Direction is received from the Director of Nursing, Coordinator of Educational Services, or other designated official.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Functional supervision may be exercised over Educational Nurse Coordinators and office staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree in nursing, education or a related field is necessary.
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan is necessary.
Two or more years of nursing experience as an R.N. is necessary.
Two or more years in educational programming is necessary.
This position requires Primary Source Verification.
