Reducing Noise Pollution in the Pediatric ICU by Implementing a Strategy to Decrease Sound Levels in Patient Rooms

By installing portable sound monitors in patient rooms, the degree of noise pollution in the hospital environment, especially at night, can be assessed. By implementing a checklist of easy to perform tasks by the bedside nurses, such as turning the TV off at night, closing the patient room door, setting the hospital and personal phone/pager to vibrate, etc., noise pollution can be significantly reduced, offering a restful environment for the patients to obtain better quality sleep.
